Just got an update from Kathy Lawless.....Needs volunteers desperately to sign up for help at the booth and also for the  Parade and help with the 50/50 raffle that will be held on Saturday night.  This is a great opportunity to make some easy money to help with our mission --- Please if you can spare a little time to help out it would be much appreciated!  Many hands make light work and if we are all committed to keeping our trails open-now is the time to showup and do your part!  Unfortunately, the cows are getting in our way on this weekend or we would be there with bells on!  Need others to step up and help if possible!

Please click on the CALENDAR link at the top and read the details then make the call or send an email to Kathy.  Sounds like a very fun time!

Thanks, Dick and Connie

I'm SO excited that I can ride in the Parade on one of Kathy's mules AND...  work the booth to help spread the word about Back Country Horsemen of Michigan.

I hope that we have a large turnout from our membership to help sell tickets and spread the word.

We could use more signatures on petitions too!!

Please contact Kathy to volunteer some hours.

If you did not participate in our Charlotte Frontier Days, PRB-BCH gathering you missed a saddle full of fun.  We had a 3 day information booth, sold a few t shirts and bumper stickers , made some money and got our word out to several thousand people.  Our booth was set up in the main stream of the rodeo action, grandstand action, saloon action and flea market action.  What more can we ask to be handed to us.

We participated in the Grand Parade, which is rated in the top 10 parades in Michigan.  Our parade unit was very diverse.  We had 3 wagons pulled by a team of Drafts, a team of minis and a shetland pony.  We also had 9 riders on horses and mules.  The streets were lined 4-5 people deep for 2 miles.  There were 3 announcer booths along the parade route who gave us great coverage.  A few people came to our booth from the parade to see what we were about.  You can't buy this kind of coverage.

We also sold 50/50 raffle tickets in a sell out crowd during the Satuday night PRCA Rodeo.  It was fast and furious.  The rodeo annoucer gave us great coverage through out the rodeo.  He spoke of our cause several times.

A few of us camped for the weekend in the infield, right behind the rodeo arena.  We shared good food and had a good time.  I must mention I have not camped with so much BULL ever in my life.  LOL  I wont mention any names, but the bucking bulls were 50 feet from camp.

Thanks to everyone who came to work, ride and represent BCH.  We had a succesfull weekend and it can only happen when we work together.

Thanks Again

A big THANK YOU to Diane Barmes for making this past weekend possible and for Kathy Lawless for taking the lead on this event. Kudos!  What a wonderful time it was-even though we did not get the chance to stay over-participating in the parade and working the crowd was a blast....and very invigorating!  There have been many firsts in our lives and riding in a parade and on a horse that I have never seen before was really a great experience....I'm learning to TRUST Kathy at her word and really fell in love with a spotted QUARTER HORSE!!!  It was a real treat! (Can't believe I just said that!!):D Thank you Kathy for that!  Also a special thanks also to Gabrielle Hume, Gordan and Marieta Davis, Ron and Ameilia Beyer, Karen Brodenbach, Mike Stinson, Randy Benner for their hours spent working and setting up and taking down the booth....You all are amazing!  The town of Charlotte will never be able to say they have not heard of Back Country Horsemen.  Will be looking forward to a repeat maybe next year---lots of pictures were taken and will be posted soon!  Marieta and Samantha Tatrow were our photographers for the weekend!
