Open House Scheduled June 21 on "Proposed Management Plan for Fort Custer State Recreation Area". It has become evident from staff and visitors over the past several years that relationships between FCHFA and SWMMBA have eroded to the point that the (DNRE)question the efficiency of continued shared trail use. The DNRE, Recreational Division, experienced a similar situation at Ponitac Lake Recreation Area in the late 1990's, resulting in the successful development and implementation of separated trails, according to their opinion. The DNRE has announced that an open house designed for the public to provide input on the proposed Phase 2 Long-Range Action Goals Plan for Fort Custer Recreation Area in Kalamazoo County will be held on Monday, June 21. The open house will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. In the gymnasium at the Galesburg-Augusta High

School, located at 315 W. Battle Creek Dr. In Galesburg. If you are unable to attend this meeting-please send your comments to Mr. Curtis at: curtisp@michigan.gov

We are encouraging all equestrians who love this area to please take the time and attend this very important meeting! If time does not permit, please send your comments to Mr. Paul Curtis ASAP: curtisp@michigan.gov The historic background of Fort Custer began with horses designated in 1974 as horse trails...once again  these trails are being threatened.
